2016 in Self Search

The past year has been what I would like to think of as a stepping stone into getting to know and to love oneself. You know when you reach that point in life where you think is that it. The days consist of work/school, commute, some TV and tidying up. Weeks and months fly by and you feel that it’s time for a change but don’t really know how to make one or maybe this daily routine is boring but oh so comfortable? However, I have been inspired to learn more about life and about myself through different sources of information.

YOUTUBE

The best thing is probably the vast amount of inspirational information on Youtube. You can type in any sort of vague phrase something like: how do change your life for the better and one of the 1st things to come up is Bob Proctor’s video. Another great sources on Youtube are Mimi Ikonn’s and Alex Ikonn’s channels. They have the best books recommendations as well as very interesting life philosophy which many people could relate to. Not to mention their several thriving business and the cutest little baby girl, just in case cute baby pictures is something you are after! Mimi and Alex are also creators of 5 Minute Journal (I have been using their 5 Minute Journal App) and Productivity Planner. More of a lecture style videos on Your Youniverse or any similar channels which make you think differently about life and inspire to try the techniques.

PODCASTS

I am still quite new when it comes to Podcasts or maybe that’s just the platform where not many titles resonated with me yet. Having said that, The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes has one of the most amazing and inspirational podcasts there are. Just give it a listen and you will see for your self.

BOOKS

Big Magic.jpg

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert  – you might know Gilbert’s other phenomenal book Eat Pray Love but in 2016 I have picked up a copy of her newest book Big Magic and it did not disappoint. It’s a very well written read that just shuts up so many doubts (oh I might not be good enough) and just inspires you to get on with your art, your way of creating for the sake of creating.

The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod – this is the book that I have been wanting to implement since reading it. The 6 step ritual seems to make so much sense to practice and so far I did get into a few of the steps, however, getting up at 6 and exercising is still something I have to work on. But the book is totally worth a read and maybe even a second read just to make sure you have picked up all the techniques.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson – this was one of the most eye opening books. I have been worrying most of my life about things that did not need worrying about and getting annoyed about the situations I have no control over. So essentially, what is the point then. This book really does put a lot of things into perspective.

TheSecretLogo.jpg

The Secret by Rhona Byrne – having first saw the film called The Secret in 2006, I was fascinated, inspired and indeed wanted to practice and let it take me where I was supposed to be and achieve what I was supposed to achieve. This did not happen and a few years later I have picked up a copy of the book (and since then listened to it multiple times on Audible). I think now it makes so much more sense then back then. Whoever has critical opinion about the book I suggest not to just leave it there, read (or listed to) another book called The Power by the same author and it gives more insight into the whole process if attraction. Love is the key.

The Alchemist by Paulo Choelho – again, having read the book many years ago, I though it was fascinating, enchanting, however, the deeper concept probably escaped me, or got lost inside the young and impressionable mind as I recall myself wondering how amazing it would be to really master the alchemy. Little did I know that this book was indeed teaching me how to become an alchemist of my own life. One of many amazing quotes:

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

The Holy Bible – it’s an interesting one, but honestly, The Holy Bible is one of the most inspirational books ever written. Often read like poems during the mass the passages lose the meaning and become and automatic prayer that we know. The language has changed quite a bit since King James’ times that sometimes it’s easy to overlook the real meaning but there are plenty of quotes to pick up online and on Youtube that are a real eye opener.  My favourite passage about love:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

PEOPLE

Besides the before mentioned Mimi and Alex Ikonn and Lewis Howes, I have listened to Oprah, Bob Proctor, Tony Robbins, Abraham Hicks, Les Brown and more.

I am taking all the knowledge gained last year into the brand new 2017 and will soon write about the tools that I am using this year to help me achieve the my goals. I will definitely do my best to continue this journey and will read and listen more. Please do share your thoughts and recommendations and let’s spread the love!
